The Basics Of Dog Health

Dogs, just like humans, have a variety of conditions that can affect their health. Unfortunately, dogs can have bone and joint problems, eye problems, nervous disorders, digestive, respiratory and cardiovascular disorders, as well as hereditary diseases and even cancers. As a dog owner, the health of your pet is always a concern. The good news is that by following a few simple steps, you can ensure that your dog will be healthy and any conditions that arise will be noted and treated as early as possible to obtain the best possible outcome.

The following list is a general outline of the suggestions that most vets recommend for ensuring your dog's health. Remember that some breeds may have additional needs that are health-related, so be sure to research your breed and be aware of any conditions or dog health risks that may be prevalent within the breed.

Exercise

All dogs need some level of exercise on a daily basis. Many of the small breeds will exercise indoors or will "self-exercise", but other breeds simply do not. Owners need to realize that just turning the dog outside in the yard for a couple of hours a day may not be exercise either. Many dogs will simply find a shady spot to rest in until they're allowed back in the house. Having a dog means that you're willing to make a commitment to their daily exercise, whether that is going for a walk, jog, or just tossing the ball or Frisbee for 20 minutes. Watch your dog to be sure that they're not over tired or injured during exercise, especially if there's a lot of jumping or running involved. Encourage your dog to exercise even if they don't seem to want to that day.

Diet

Feed only a good quality or premium dry kibble to your dog. Avoid the wet foods, as they are often not as nutritionally balanced as the kibble, plus they can cause both dental and digestive problems. If you are feeding wet food, consult with your vet and make sure that you are using the correct amount and type to balance the nutritional needs of your dog. Avoid feeding human food and too many treats. Human food or treats should be less than 5% of the daily food intake of your dog. Many vets and dog health experts recommend no human food and only select dog treats.

Some foods should be avoided completely. The following are harmful and possibly fatal to dogs:

Chocolates

Sweets and sugars

Raisins

Raw pork

Raw fish

Any kind of poultry that is raw

Any kind of raw or cooked poultry bones

Coffee

Mushrooms

Onions and garlic (in large quantities)

Dogs should always have free access to clean water and should never be kenneled or kept in an area where there is no water.

Attention to Detail

By carefully observing your dog on a regular basis, you can note any signs of discomfort or anxiety quickly. Watch for changes in your dog's behavior, including their energy level and food and water consumption. Often the first signs of many conditions are a change in eating patterns. Any odd behavior should be noted and carefully monitored. Behaviors such as seizures, excessive salivating, excessive or abnormal tearing of the eyes or discharges from any part of the body should be immediately checked by a vet.

Routine Vet Visits

Be sure to keep vaccinations and other dog health precautions up to date with routine visits to the vet. In some areas, heartworm and other conditions require constant monitoring and the vet can provide this service. Before breeding your dog, be sure to have her or him completely checked for any genetic conditions or predispositions such as hip dysplasia.

Love and Attention

Last, but certainly not least, your dog needs your family's love and attention. Dogs thrive when they feel they are a loved and involved member of the family. Dog health is linked to love and attention, as loving owners are usually more aware of changes in the dog's health and well being and get professional help sooner.

In all cases, it is vitally important to talk to your vet about any concerns that you may have with dog health and be sure to know any conditions that are specific to the breed of dog that you own.

Various Back Massage Techniques

Back Massage is one of the best ways through which you can relive yourself from back pain. You can use various back massage techniques for benefits, such as relaxation, increased body awareness, better blood circulation and improved lymphatic drainage for release of toxins. Selecting a right back massage technique is important for receiving maximum benefits. Typically, during the back massage, a masseur uses massage oil to decrease friction created on the skin and to prevent the pulling of skin hair. The less the quantity of oil applied, the greater is the friction and deeper will be the pressure. Use light stroking movements throughout your massage to move from one area to another, to soothe an area of localized deep tissue or to make a transition to another stroke.

Step By Step Guide for Back Massage

Mentioned below are few steps, which detail a back massage technique for relieving one from back pain.

The person receiving the massage should lie down on his/her belly on a firm, comfortable surface, such as a floor mat or firm bed. Make sure that you the whole back of the massage receiver is comfortably within reach. Stand by the side of the person and place one hand on the lower back and teh other between the shoulder blades, over the heart.

Warm up the back by applying thumb pressure along both sides of the spine simultaneously: Start from the lower back and knead gently with your thumbs up to the neck area. This will also promote relaxation.

Use a smooth, delicate stroke, called "effleurage", to apply massage oil. In one long stroke, slide your palms down either side of the spine to the pelvis; scoop out around the hips and back up the sides to the shoulders. Maintain contact with the back. Move your hands over the back to start a new area. Continue up both sides of the neck to the base of the head.

Starting at the spine, slide your palms in opposite directions outward to the sides of the back, starting with the lower back area, and moving up to the shoulders.

Knead the fleshy muscular areas at the top of the shoulders, the mid-back area and the buttocks to loosen any tight muscles and fascia, which is a connective tissue.

Finding A Raincoat To Meet Your Needs

The decision to purchase a raincoat is an important one. Depending on your specific needs, you will want to choose one that is made of the right fabric and is made to withstand the appropriate conditions. Your overall need should be taken into consideration when choosing the right women's raincoat.

There are three basic types of fabric to choose from, all of which serve different purposes. The first is water resistant/breathable fabric. Raincoats made of this type of fabric will allow water to bead then roll off. The breathable factor will allow sweat to escape through the fabric, so will keep you from feeling clammy while you are active. Unfortunately, however, water resistant fabric works best in situations where precipitation is minimal so is not conducive to harsh weather conditions. It is, however, usually also wind resistant and light-weight, so is preferred among runners and cyclists who place great importance on these factors.

The second type of fabric is one that is waterproof and breathable. Waterproof fabric is able to repel water in harsh conditions and is usually a bit heavier in weight than water resistant fabric. While this type of fabric may cost more, it is ideal for a variety of conditions and sports. This means you can wear a raincoat made of this fabric in rain or snow, or the various types of rainwear while skiing or hiking. Again, the breath ability factor allows sweat to escape so the end result is a more comfortable raincoat.

The third type is ultralight waterproof breathable fabric. This type of fabric is highly breathable and are ideal in situations where weight and space are critical. Depending on the layering system you require, this type of fabric can be used in warm to cool climates. They are easy to pack and take up very little space. Though rainwear made of this type of fabric is more costly, but they provide great protection in nasty weather conditions while providing overall lighter outerwear.

No matter which type of fabric you choose, keep in mind that climate will play a major part in need. If you live in an area where it doesn't not rain much, one of the first two types of fabric may serve you well, but if you live in an area that sustains much rainfall, you might want to consider the last type of fabric so you will be able to be active and mobile even in the nastiest of weather conditions.

Your Guide to Ordering Hearing Aids Online

Before you buy
Investing in a hearing aid takes a lot of consideration with key decisions being setting a budget and deciding what style you prefer. Before you make a purchase you should arrange for a check up so you can be certain than your impaired hearing isn't caused by something which can't be corrected by a hearing aid such as ear wax or an ear infection. Speak to your doctor or audiologist about the options available to you for hearing aids and ask them for their recommendations.

Benefits of ordering hearing aids online
Online hearing device providers don't usually have a waiting list so you can order your hearing aid at any time. There is usually more choice available, especially of the smaller in-the-ear varieties, which means you can select a style which is right for your requirements from the start, rather than opting for an uncomfortable style or a device which needs to be adapted. Although hearing devices are expensive, if you choose to buy one privately then your medical insurer might be able to pay for part of the cost so make sure you check with your insurance provider before you make a purchase. You should be offered a free hearing test from an audiologist when you order online which will give you peace of mind that you're investing in the right aid for your needs.

Available aftercare
Many online companies offer trial periods for their hearing devices which will give you the time to adapt to wearing the hearing aid and decide if it's definitely the right one for you. Don't forget to check if this is a free trial or if you have to pay for it. As with all electrical devices, hearing aids can break and they can be extremely difficult to fix due to how small the components are. If your device breaks within a few months (or even years) of buying it, you don't want to have to pay for a new one so check what warranties the company offers and what these cover. Ideally go for a warrantee covering parts and labour as this should ensure you don't receive any costly surprises if you need any repairs.

Look for reputable companies
Although ordering online can often be cheaper than offline, it is easier for fraudulent companies to operate from behind the safety of a website. When buying hearing aids online, lookout for bogus claims which promise a certain device will restore your hearing completely for example. Reputable companies will have websites which offer impartial and informative advice which will help you make the best decision for your requirements. Normally you will be asked to make an appointment with a qualified audiologist who will recommend the right hearing aid for you. If you're not offered a free hearing test with a qualified specialist then think twice about using the website's service.

If you're still unsure about how legitimate a company is then check their website to see if they have full contact details, including a landline telephone number and a customer services team so you can speak to them and ask them direct about your service. Testimonials from previous companies are also a good indication of how well the company operate.
